International Visual Methods Conference

More successful Visual Communication research news, this time from the International Visual Methods Conference, hosted by the Open University in Milton Keynes. The conference, the second of its kind, invited academics and others who work with visual methods to take part in presentations and discussions, as well as a programme of workshops, viewing a variety of exhibitions and films.
The conference covered a broad range of interests including: visual methods & research design, approaches to analyzing visual data, participatory visual methods, researcher-created visual data, visual ethics, arts-based visual research methods, visual culture and visual methods, data visualisation and visual technology (including eye tracking).
Jessica Glaser and Jeff Leak, presented a paper that focussed on the visual language of typography and its use in communicating subtleties in meaning. Examples were sourced from both historical and contemporary contexts and linguistic models were referenced to analyse both visual and verbal language.
