Happy Birthday Saul Bass




Saul Bass died in 1996, today would have been his 93 Birthday.


He was born in the Bronx, New York in 1920 and Moved to Los Angeles in his mid 20′s. His graphic design career was already quite successful when his work for Otto Preminger’s 1955 film ‘The Man with the Golden Arm’ became acclaimed. It’s highly stylised poster designs and groundbreaking title sequence gave him worldwide recognition as a leader in the newly established field of film sequence design. He went on to work with with the likes of Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese to create some of the most well known imagery in the history of cinema. Saul Bass also created logos and corporate identity systems for United Airlines, AT&T, Minolta, Bell Telephone System and Warner Communications.

  1. I always wondered who designed those posters/book jackets. He's been parodied may times too.
